Holidays are all about coming together with your family and Automobile Bavaria Băneasa has done that in spectacular fashion as the Romanian dealership brought together seven generations of the BMW 7-Series.

While the event was designed to celebrate the launch of the new i7, the electric luxury sedan had to share the spotlight with some classic gems including Alpina versions of the E32 and E38.  They were joined by a 730d xDrive (F01) as well as a G12 The Next 100 Years edition.  The latter celebrated the company’s 100th anniversary and was limited to 100 units globally.

The story starts in 1977 and BMW says the E23 was notable for featuring turbocharged engines, a diagnostic computer, and an anti-lock braking system.  It was followed by the E32, which became the first German car to offer a V12 engine in nearly 40 years.  The vehicle was also notable for having traction control, a rear air suspension with a self-leveling function, and xenon headlights.

The innovations continued with the E38, which became the first European car with a navigation system.  The screen also doubled as a television and this effectively makes it a predecessor to the 31.3-inch Theater Screen found in today’s model.

The E65 would introduce “Bangle Butt” into our lexicon, but the model was also notable for featuring iDrive, a head-up display, a night vision system, and soft close doors.  The F01 would follow later with xDrive, all-wheel steering, and an integrated web browser.  Then came the G11 with Laser headlights and an advanced platform that utilized carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

The latest member of the family needs no introduction as we drove the seventh-generation 7-Series last month.  The 760i xDrive is the star of the show, but the i7 is notable for featuring a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS) and 549 lb-ft (744 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the EV to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and travel up to 318 miles (512 km) on a single charge.
