World Premiere of G70 Shooting Brake at Goodwood

The highly anticipated Genesis G70 Shooting Brake was revealed at Goodwood Festival of Speed today by Dominique Boesch, Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe, and the Duke of Richmond.

The G70 Shooting Brake, the fifth vehicle in the brand’s growing vehicle line-up for Europe, embodies the award-winning design philosophy of Genesis while honouring the rich history of the Shooting Brake tradition with its iconic design.

To celebrate the global debut, Genesis commissioned a one-shot first-person view (FPV) journey through Goodwood House and up the famous hill climb as it chased the car. You can view it here.

Shot in glorious 4K high definition, using a 5″ FPV drone piloted by Miles Mulvagh and Harry Clifton, the drone reached speeds of up to 60 mph while tailing the G70 Shooting Brake driven by former British F2 rally champion and precision driver, Gethin Jones, up the 1,890-metre track.

Dominique Boesch, Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe, commented: “We are thrilled to be here at Goodwood today to reveal this pivotal model for Genesis, our fifth car in the region. The iconic British festival, watched by millions, is the perfect destination to unveil our bespoke product tailored for European customers.

“We are also excited to invite fans to experience a different perspective on the iconic hill climb and stunning grounds here at Goodwood, connecting the British heritage and Korean influence, whilst showcasing the athleticism of the G70 Shooting Brake in an audacious film.”

Highlighting the luxury of Goodwood House, the film begins with an aerial shot of its opulent surroundings before the camera descends and enters the grand Egyptian Dining Room through the sash window. The camera passes the Duke of Richmond enjoying traditional Ginseng tea as he catches up on the latest news from Korea, the home of Genesis.

The car and drone then weave in and out of the trees along the iconic hill climb showcasing the dynamic styling and versatility of the G70 Shooting Brake, before coming to a stop at the top with the drone demonstrating the practicality of the Shooting Brake by landing gracefully in the boot.

Over the weekend, fans can see the all-new G70 Shooting Brake on the world-renowned hill climb, along with the recently launched GV80 SUV and G80 saloon and the G70 saloon and GV70 urban SUV, as well as viewing the full range at the Genesis Mobile Lounge.

On 4 May, Genesis officially announced its plans for the European market with the brand commencing sales later this year, starting with Germany, the UK and Switzerland.

Orders for the G80 saloon, and its GV80 SUV, open this summer, with the G70 Shooting Brake, GV70 SUV and G70 Saloon following soon after. The electrified G80 will soon follow as part of the brand’s lineup of three electric cars to be announced within the year.

Kia Teases All-New EV6

Kia Corporation has revealed the first official images of the EV6 – its first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) built on the company’s new EV platform (Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP).

EV6 is also the first of Kia’s next-generation BEVs to be developed under a new design philosophy that embodies Kia’s shifting focus towards electrification.

“EV6 is the embodiment of both our brand purpose, ‘Movement that inspires’, and our new design philosophy. It has been designed to inspire every journey by offering an instinctive and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers, and provide user ownership that is simple, intuitive and integrated,” said Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center. “Our aim is to design the physical experience of our brand and to create bold, original and inventive electric vehicles.”

Kia’s new naming strategy for upcoming dedicated BEVs

As part of the company’s brand transition, Kia’s new dedicated battery electric vehicles will be named according to a new naming strategy. The new approach brings simplicity and consistency to Kia’s EV nomenclature across all global markets.

All of Kia’s new dedicated BEVs will start with the prefix ‘EV’ which makes it easy for consumers to understand which of Kia’s products are fully electric. This is followed by a number which corresponds to the car’s position in the line-up.

Designed and engineered to embody Kia’s new brand slogan, ‘Movement that inspires’, EV6 will make its world premiere during the first quarter of 2021.

2021 Kia K7 GL3 Rendering

After we have seen the new Kia logo applied in the next-gen K7 (codenamed as GL3) all around, from interior to exterior or wheel caps. Today we want to share with you a new rendering from AtchaCars based on the latest spy shots and it looks promising.

What we know so far?

When we saw the first spy picture of this car, we refused to believe this was a new generation of Kia’s midsize sedan, the K7. Why? Because we thought was to early for it, but now this pictures from our colleagues at AutoPost allow us to confirms that Kia is already working, urgently, in the third generation K7 (known as Cadenza in some overseas markets) codenamed as GL3.

What could be the reason for this urgency? Well, the problem is inside and it’s called Hyundai Grandeur. Since Hyundai launched the Grandeur facelift which was already like a full model change the sales of the K7 have dropped significantly. If you compare it, during March in the local market, the Grandeur sold 13,544 units in March, while the K7 sold only 3,863 units.

Then in April this situation was repeated as Grandeur sold 11,566 units and the K7 only 3,379 units. The K7 went through a successful facelift last year and once surpassed the Grandeur sales, but after the new Grandeur was released, it was unable to beat it again. The report says Kia Motors has become urgent in preparing a new model, and a test car was first caught in South Korea.

The Kia K7 went through a facelift in June last year with the launch of K7 Premier. The K7 Premier, which was the first facelift model to be released after the release of the second generation K7 (codenamed as YG) in January 2016, is armed with a refined design and outstanding specifications such as 2.5 gasoline engines, a guess room monitor system and a digital instrument panel that were not available in the previues Grandeur IG for example.

Looks like the diamond-pattern of the grille are expanded all-around the bumper, like in the Grandeur

In November last year, the Grandeur also faced a facelift, and the advanced specifications applied to the K7 Premier were also applied to the Grandeur, and many consumers who were waiting for a new car stood in a long queue to purchase the Grandeur instead of K7. As of May 2020, the Grandeur and the K7 are not actually in the right race, as their sales are more than three times higher.

The existing replacement cycle, which was 5-6 years, has been shortened to 4-5 years. Since the news of the full-change already within less than a year since the facelift model appeared, many consumers said, “Hyundai Kia’s model replacement cycle is too fast.” He said, “How long have I been in the K7 Premier already, are we going to do a full change already?” So the 3rd gen K7 is expected to be released in the first half of next year.

About powertrain, Kia will keep the 2.5 GDi while will add the 2.5 Turbo GDi (could Kia launch a K7 GT-Line or even a K7 GT with this engine?) as well as replace the 3.0 GDi for the new 3.5 GDi engine. The hybrid will left the old configuration in favor of the new 1.6 Turbo + electric motor of the new Sorento or Santa Fe.

Until now, Hyundai Kia’s model change cycle has been around 5 to 6 years, but recently, the replacement cycle has been shortened to around 4 to 5 years. Avante (know as Elantra in overseas markets) had a full-change model (codenamed as CN7) in 2020, five years after 6th gen Avante (codenamed as AD) launched in 2015, and Kia’s medium-sized sedan K5 also received its third gen model (DL3) last year, 4 years after the launch of the 2nd gen model in 2015.

Some claimed it was a Kia K4 test car (me too) that was a China-only model between K3 and K5, but who took the picture said, I have checked the prototype label and was labeled as GL3.” so that corresponds to third generation K7.

What can be seen is that the front part design has a significantly larger grille than the previous one. There are some customers who are disappointed by the new grille or the style grille that can be compared to what we have seen in the Santa Fe facelift, rather than the vertical grille, which was the symbol of the previous K7 generations.

The details such as the shape of the headlightss or taillights are not known yet, but we expect something like the K5 but more upscale. We have spotted an interesting details on the side style of the new K7, which has new exterior mirrors now attached to the door like in the K5 and an extended C-pillar line now has a shark fin antenna premiered on the Kia Proceed and followed by the all-new Kia Sorento.

Why Kia wants to make with this earlier launch of a new generation K7? Well, follow the success of the new K5 which already beated the new Sonata DN8 in terms of sales.

Genesis GV70 Spied w/ Alcantara Seats & Carbon Pattern

Today we want to share the latest pictures of the Genesis GV70 Sport spied in South Korea, where we can see the GV70 (codenamed as JK1) prototype from the inside, with Alcantara seats and a carbon fiber pattern around the armrest and door panels, this finish was found inside of 20″ inch wheel and rounded dual exhaust GV70 by Clubstinger.kr

What we know so far?

If you look at the spy shot of the recently captured GV70, there is one other part. If you look closely, you can see that there is no pentagonal muffler vertically on the bumper. Instead of the muffler, only the black glossy net is visible. Looking at the recently released GV80 and G80 diesel models, it is characterized by applying a so-called ‘faucet muffler’ rather than a muffler exposed outside.

Therefore, the spy shot model can be regarded as the main diesel model. But the image above corresponds to the GV70 Sport, as has different design, are bigger and has special wheels too. While the bigger GV80 is aiming for the Mercedes GLE, the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7 the smaller GV70 will go after the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.

If you look at other design elements, the tail lamp design looks similar to the GV80 and G80, and you can see that the auxiliary brake light is on the top of the tailgate. And you can see that the reflector and direction indicator are applied to the bumper. In the GV80 and G80, the turn signal is different from that included in the tail lamp. In other words, the Genesis family look is applied, but it is expected to show a slightly different appearance from the GV80.

The engine lineup applied to the GV70 was confirmed to be the same as the G80, 2.5 gasoline turbo, 3.5 gasoline turbo, and 2.2 diesel. Since it is the same engine, the specifications are also shared. 2.5 gasoline turbo has a maximum output of 304 hp, maximum torque of 43.0 kg.m, 2.2 diesel has a maximum output of 210 hp, maximum torque of 45.0 kg.m, 3.5 gasoline turbo has a maximum output of 380 hp and maximum torque of 54.0 kg.m (this could be only available for the GV70 Sport). As the body size is small, it is expected to show more dynamic performance than the GV80.

Although there are no transmission data, many models of Hyundai, including Genesis, use an 8-speed automatic transmission, so the GV70 is likely to be equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Semi-active engine mounts are applied to diesel models. It improves idle NVH performance when stopped, reducing engine vibration transmitted to the driver. The drive system is based on the rear wheel, and AWD can be selected as an option.

Next, let’s look at the appearance specifications. The bonnet and tailgate are made of aluminum to reduce the body weight. As mentioned earlier, the muffler offers only dual gasoline models. The fuel tank is equipped with 66 liters and the battery is equipped with AGM’s 80 Ah capacity. The wheels are available in three sizes: 18 inches, 19 inches and 21 inches, and 19 inches and 21 inches are available in two designs. Bridgestone tires are standard, Michelin tires are option al for diesel, and 3.5 gasoline turbos are standard.

Let’s take a look at the exterior and interior options. The central display is based on the same 14.5 inches as the GV80 and G80. In addition, a Genesis integrated controller capable of handwriting recognition is also expected to be provided, and it is not known whether augmented reality navigation is applied.

The instrument panel comes with an 8-inch cluster as standard and a 12.3-inch 3D cluster as an option. Other options include Smart Cruise Control, Smart High Beam, Surround View, Head-Up Display, Rear Monitor, HDA2 and Lexicon Sound System. In order to make a difference from the GV80, some specifications are omitted as options.

According to Hyundai’s production plan, the GV70 is known to start production in October. For this reason, it is highly likely to be released in October and at the latest in November at the earliest. However, due to the uncertainty of the Corona 19 situation, the release schedule is likely to be delayed. It is scheduled to export to Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Canada, the United States and Russia after its domestic launch.

Genesis will also make a electric variant of the GV70 SUV, that will be launched later, and separately of Genesis JW dedicated EV based on the new E-GMP platform, to be cousin of Hyundai 45 and Kia CV.

Hyundai Motors Reveals Bold All New Tucson

Today Hyundai released official new photos and videos of the upcoming, fully redesigned Tucson crossover.

The new Tucson is a big step up for the compact crossover, with styling, technology, and performance enhancements that seem likely to set a higher bar for the segment, and continue a refreshing restyling of the Hyundai brand both inside and out.

Sensuous Sportiness

One of the biggest departures from the current Tucson is the bold exterior design, which follows a design language Hyundai calls “Sensuous Sportiness.”

The daytime running lights are fully integrated into the largefront grille, and when the car is off, they are unnoticeable among the dark chrome features. However, when you start driving, the edges of the geometric designed grille light up in 5 distinct, jewel-like triangles of light on each side. Note that the actual LED headlights and turn signals are housed in separate units lower down the front bumper in a darkened housing that blends in seamlessly with a pair of small air ducts that supply cooling to the brakes and improved aerodynamics.

The side view of the next generation Hyundai Tucson has heavily angular and deep creases throughout the bodywork in a more finished application than the similarly styled Elantrasedan. A strong character line runs from just above the rear lights into the front fender styling, including both concave and convex details. This is matched by the angular wheel arches and sharply sculpted lower body cladding. A satin chrome window trim line at the top of the side windows extends to the back of the car and integrates with the rear spoiler and back window thanks to chiseled details on the rear piece of the trim. Hyundai’s hero color for this car is a deep metallic grayish blue with a gloss black roof, which also sports gloss black side view mirror covers. Other paint colors allow buyers the choice of a black, dark gray, or body colored roof.

The new Hyundai Tucson comes with three wheel designs: 17”, 18”, and 19” alloys which have a sporty two-tone style and are paired with Continental and Michelin tire options.

The rear of the Tucson also features a strong, rugged appearance, with a lightbar extending the full width of the back of the car, with jagged tooth-like spikes angling downward on both sides. The brake lights are accented by smaller triangles that light up to imitate the front grille design. Reversing lights, turn signals, and rear reflectors are integrated into the lower rear diffuser in a compact unit. That rear diffuser also sports a triangular design similar to the grille. A two dimensionalHyundai logo sits at the bottom of the rear window, while a rear wiper is hidden at the top of the rear window.

Minimalist Interior Design

In stark contrast to the complex shapes of the exterior, the new Tucson’s interior is very simple and clean. Two silver trim lines extend from the sides of the center stack across both sides of the dashboard and onto the upper interior door trim. These trim lines integrate the infotainment and climate controls, air vents, as well as memory seats for well equipped models into a single sweeping design element. The available 10.25” touch screen sits atop an array of inductive redundant controls that control the sound system, in-car navigation, Bluetooth phone with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a suite of other technology.

From the driver’s perspective, the new Tucson features a fully digital instrument cluster with a minimalist design that does away with the standard binnacle that most gauge clusters sit in. The leather wrapped steering wheel also has a minimalist design but contains all the usual controls you are used to, with an elegant satin chrome line outlining the lower part of the wheel. To drive the car, you can use the drive by wire with buttons similar to those found in the Palisade. There’s also an electronic parking brake and auto hold function, and the drive mode selector is a toggle at the front of the transmission select buttons.

Under the center console, there’s additional storage, and above that are the controls for the heated and ventilated front seats and wireless phone charger. 64 user-selectable colors of ambient lighting emanate from the center console, above the wireless charging pad, and on the doors. Rear passengers can slide or recline the rear seat to their preferred position, and can select their own temperature for the rear climate control zone with rear heated seats to maximize comfort. Speaking of climate control, the Tucson also features multi-air slots in the dashboard, which serve to more gently air out the cabin without blowing air directly into the face of vehicle occupants when this is not desired.

Material quality also looks to be high for the segment, and the interior is available in multiple colors, including two-tone options and an available teal interior color choice. Interior dimensions are larger in every direction, including more legroom and more cargo capacity. The rearview mirror is a frameless style to finish things off nicely.

The Tucson now comes with a host of available convenience and safety driving features such as smart cruise control with Lane Following Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and active safety features that stop the car autonomously in various dangerous situations. A 360 degree camera doubles as a blind view monitoring camera that shows up as a display in the gauge cluster when using the turn signal. You can also remote park the car similar to the top trims of the Sonata.

The new Tucson is also now a more eco-friendly model, and will be available with a fully gas engine, a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain, a fully hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid. Lower powered Tucson receive a relaxed 2.5L naturally aspirate four-cylinder engine that gets 187 hp and 182 lb-ft torque. Higher powered specifications of the Tucson, including all the hybrid options above, receive a 1.6L turbocharged four cylinder, which has a maximum combined output of 227hp and 258lb-ft when assisted by the batteries in the hybrid systems. These powertrain options may vary by market.

Hyundai has also promised a N Line version of the new Hyundai Tucson coming soon, but has not said anything about a hotter full “N” version of the redesigned Tucson. Since Hyundai is already using the naturally aspirated 2.5L engine in the Tucson at launch, it seems safe to reason that an N Line variant could use the turbocharged 2.5L as in the Sonata N Line.

The Tucson also receives an optional HTRAC all wheel drive system with terrain modes. While this system doesn’t make the Tucson a true off-road vehicle, it does increase the capability of the compact crossover compared to its predecessor. Hyundai also provides electronically controlled suspension for the new Tucson that reduce body roll and pitch, and allow for a Sport mode that shows more noticeable difference between Normal and Sport modes than outgoing models.

Hyundai has also announced that the next generation Tucson will be available in two different wheelbases depending on what individual markets dictate.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but we do know that while the new Tucson will be available as a 2021 model in Korea, it will be coming to the US as a 2022 model year car sometime in the first half of 2021, and we hope that the US version retains all the goodies we’ve seen at its unveiling today.

Refreshed Hyundai Kona & Kona N-Line Teased

Here we have the very first glimpse of the refreshed Hyundai Kona and the first official teaser image of the Kona N-line to be added to Kona family later this year. Hyundai Motor Company is also working on a high-performance Kona N to be released next year.

The upcoming new KONA and KONA N Line SUVs express Hyundai Motor Company’s Sensuous Sportiness new global design identity we already have seen on Santa Fe, Sonata or Elantra. The front of the Kona facelift reminds a lot if you compared to the recently released Santa Fe facelift (look at the grille and the below part of the front bumper).

Wider stance & Sleeker look
The new KONA gets a wider stance and a shark-inspired nose that gives the model a sleeker look. Upgraded daytime running lamps (DRL) give it a high-tech, sophisticated style. Front skid plate and bumper add to its armored appearance.

The first KONA N Line

The new KONA N Line gets a more aerodynamic design with low-set air intake and more aggressive front bumper, complemented by corner fins and lean crease lines. The N Line model offers an attractive entry point to the N Brand and expands Kona’s appeal to a broader range of customers.

While the engine line-up is still unkown, we have managed to get some info and according to our sources in South Korea, while the Kona N will have the 2.0 T-GDi engine, with 275 hp and 8-speed DCT wet transmission, the N-line will have the new Smartstream 1.6 Turbo GDi delivering 215 hp and matted to a 8-speed DCT.

In the mean time, the regular Kona should receive the same engine as Sonata DN8, the CVVD 1.6 Turbo GDi, 180 hp and 8 speed Automatic Transmission. In some parts of the world the latest is the most powerful engine available, while in South Korea is the base gasoline engine.

More design details on the new Kona and Kona N Line will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Kia Soul EV Will Not Come to US Market After All

Today we’ve heard reports that the Kia Soul EV will not be launched in the US market after all.

The new Soul EV has been shown at US auto shows for the past two years, was present at the national media introduction in early 2019, and was featured on the Kia website under the “Upcoming Vehicles” section. At first, it was set to launch a few months after the gas-powered 2020 Kia Soul. Then, Kia announced a delay of the EV version until the 2021 model year, citing a battery shortage and a decision to prioritize the Niro EV first and the Soul EV second. Now, it appears to have been cancelled for the US market altogether.

As of today, the Kia website no longer lists the 2021 Soul EV under “Upcoming Vehicles,” although Kia reps have not yet officially announced the cancellation.

Kia has committed to bring more electric vehicles to market, and we’ve seen spy shots of an upcoming electric crossover testing alongside a Tesla Model 3.

Perhaps Kia wants to focus all attention on this future EV, especially since the buzz around the new Soul has died down now and the launch of the Soul EV may be anticlimactic.

We’ve also heard that the Soul EV is much more expensive to build than the normal gas-powered Soul, which would reduce profit margins and market appeal for the vehicle.

In other world markets such as the UK, Kia ONLY offers the Soul in its EV form with 243 mile range, but it seems like the current-generation Soul EV will not see American shores after all. If you want a Kia electric crossover for now, you will unfortunately have to opt for the Niro EV, which is a more traditional style versus the unique looks of the Soul.

However, the Soul EV will live on in other markets around the world.
