Nissan Shows More Of The 2021 Ariya Tesla Model Y Fighter In New Teaser

Nissan is only a few days away from presenting the Ariya, a compact electric crossover that will take on the likes of the Tesla Model Y and other vehicles in the segment.

The model will be officially unveiled during an online event scheduled for July 15, but until we will finally see it in all its glory, the Japanese automaker continues to tease it. The latest clip shows two Ariya vehicles testing on snow and ice, perhaps close to the Arctic Circle, and on the road, in a warmer environment.

Announced last year’s Tokyo Motor Show by the striking looking Ariya Concept, the production model will look similar, boasting a nearly identically shaped grille with two LED strips on each side acting as the daytime running lights and slim LED headlights.

Even the cutouts in the bumper mirror the looks of the show car, and further behind, we can see that Nissan has chosen to keep the plastic cladding around the wheel arches and on the side skirts.

Expected to launch in Japan first, with other markets to follow, including China, Europe and eventually the United States, the Ariya will feature a zero-emission powertrain featuring two electric motors, one on each axle. For now, specific details remain unknown.

It will also get the company’s ProPilot 2.0 semi-autonomous driving system, which will aid drivers on their daily commutes by allowing the car to take control of the steering, brakes and throttle on the highway.

Is The 2013 Mercedes C63 AMG A Better Buy Than A 2020 C63 S Coupe?

The current 2020 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe is an absolute beast. However, is it actually a smart buy when you can purchase a used W204-generation C63 for considerably less?

In Throttle House’s latest ‘Cheap Meets Steep’ episode, they tested a 2020 C63 S Coupe against a 2013 C63 AMG Coupe and found that both are very fitting of an AMG badge.

The W204-generation car left the factory with Mercedes-Benz’s M156 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. This engine is beloved by enthusiasts and in the facelifted C63 of the day with the available AMG Performance package, pumped out 480 hp at 6,800 rpm and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque at 5,000 rpm, giving it a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of just 4.4 seconds.

Moreover, not only does the 6.2-liter V8 provide excellent power and torque, but it also sounds glorious and is one of the best-sounding AMG cars ever.

The current-generation C63 S, introduced in 2014, comes outfitted with a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 503 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. While that is more than the old car, the new engine does have a little bit of turbo lag and doesn’t sound quite as nice.

Then you have to consider prices. In Canada where this review was conducted, the new C63 S tested was optioned out to roughly CAD$110,000 (~US$80,000), while a used W204 C63 AMG can be purchased for around CAD$40,000 (~US$29,000). This makes the latter kind of a bargain, but if you could afford it, should you go for the new one instead?

Ferrari 812 Superfast Is An Ode To V12-Powered Supercars

The days of the traditional internal combustion engines are numbered, and electrification and other alternative fuels are the future. When they eventually go out for good, though, the automotive world will look back at some of the most iconic models, like the Ferrari 812 Superfast, which sits at the top of the Prancing Horse’s range.

Succeeding the F12 Berlinetta, it is a two-seater grand tourer with a front mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive. It has a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 under that very long hood that pumps out 789 HP (800 PS / 588 kW) and 530 lb-ft (718 Nm) of torque. The 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is dispatched in just 2.9 seconds, and even though it feels like it can hit warp speed, it will eventually run out of breath at 211 mph (340 km/h), and there are very few places on our planet where one can reach such speeds safely and legally.

It may be billed as a GT, but the 812 Superfast is actually more of a supercar. It certainly has the numbers on its side, aided by the advanced aerodynamics, firm suspension and even rear-wheel steering that makes the wheelbase feel shorter than it actually is. The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission features short and fast gear changes and the very sharp steering contributes to the unique experience provided by the car. The safety systems have your back in case you are too overenthusiastic on the controls and can get you out of some very serious situations.

The interior looks just as driver-focused as the exterior, with everything bathed in high-quality materials. The traditional controls are a fingertip away, as most of them can be found on the steering wheel, and even the passenger is included in this magic as they have a secondary screen right in front of them that displays the traveling speed, G-force readout and so on. The comfort part is not neglected either, as it features cup holders, USB ports and smartphone integration.

The 812 Superfast may have a bold name, but it is one bold ride that impressed Rory Reid, who got the chance to drive it shortly after the lockdown in the UK ended. What did he have to say about it? Quite a lot of things, but that’s for you to find out by watching the following video.

Audi Driver Quickly Discovers Quattro Doesn’t Work Under Water

Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system definitely is very capable, but apparently is no match for a flooded underpass.

While that should be common sense, almost every time there’s flooding someone thinks their car can make it.

This time it was an A7 owner who decided to try their luck. As you can see, they went into the water at speed and things quickly took a turn for the worse.

After getting a short way through, the front end sinks beneath the water. The rear end then floats up and car is taken away by the waves it just created. It then bobs around, before smacking into one of the walls.

The underpass was reportedly closed at the time and it remains unclear what happened next. However, Hungary’s Index reports the underpass has drainage issues and flooded days before this incident occurred on June 17th.

According to the the same source, an inch (27mm) of rain fell and flooded the underpass. Several people attempted to get through, but a number got stuck including the driver of a BMW who reportedly had to be rescued by firefighters. An “old Suzuki” did make it across, but the news outlet noted that there “wasn’t as much water as in the new video.”

Driving through a flooded area is obviously not the best of ideas. Not only can you get swept away, but it can easily cost thousands of dollars in damage – not to mention the fact that you’re putting your, and any potential passenger’s, life at risk…

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Is An Animal On The Track

There was a time when American muscle cars could do nothing more than accelerate quickly in a straight-line but would fall apart at the slightest sight of a corner. Today, things have changed – and in some cases, dramatically.

The muscle car of the moment is unquestionably the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which not only sprints down the quarter-mile at frightening speeds but, as this video shows, is also heaps of fun to drive on a racetrack.

This GT500 is owned by YouTuber Speed Phenom and was recently taken to Laguna Seca and driven around the challenging circuit in fury. While there are lots of faster cars on sale at the moment than the GT500, few, if any, have a soundtrack to match the Mustang nor are they as competitively priced.

Watch Also: Can A Stock Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Keep Up With A Slightly Tuned C7 Corvette ZR1?

Under the hood of the GT500 resides a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that produces 760 hp and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends its power exclusively through the rear wheels. As the YouTuber discovered while lapping the pony car, it loves nothing more than spinning up the tires in second gear if the driver is a little too aggressive with the throttle.

While there are far more efficient ways to get around a racetrack quickly than having 760 hp in a rear-wheel drive car that weighs over 4,000 lbs, there are few cars that provide the theater of the GT500.

Yellow Lamborghini Aventador Rear Ends… Another Yellow Lamborghini Aventador

Two virtually identical Lamborghini Aventador S models crashed into each other in Singapore last weekend, local media reports.

According to RedChili21, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 7 when the two Aventador Ss were driving in unison through the city’s streets. It is claimed that one of the Lamborghinis was stopped at an intersection when it was rear-ended by the second.

While the owners of the two cars quickly removed their license plates, members at the SG Road Vigilante – SGRV group on Facebook identified the two cars. In the wake of the incident, a video of one of the Aventadors speeding through a roundabout and cutting off a car on May 24 has emerged.

The two Aventadors involved in the crash are easily identifiable because of the modifications made to them. Not only are both painted in the same shade of yellow but they are both rolling on black wheels and appear to feature similar side skirts, rear diffusers, and identical rear wings.

It is understood that police arrived at the scene of the crash and both of the supercars were towed away, but not before a series of photos and videos of them were snapped by bystanders.

Photos show that the rear bumper, diffuser and one of the rear quarter panels of the front Aventador has been damaged, while the front bumper and splitter of the example that hit it has also been messed up. It also looks as though a small fire may have been triggered in the front car, as at least two men could be seen dousing it with a fire extinguisher.

Tesla Model 3 Performance: Is It Really A Game-Changer?

The Tesla Model 3 Performance has been on the market for quite some time now but only recently did Rory Reid from AutoTrader have the opportunity to drive it. Like most reviewers, including ourselves, he was left very impressed.

Many electric cars currently on the market are far from what you’d describe as ‘fun’ or ‘entertaining’. In fact, the majority of them are fairly boring city cars. On the other hand, the Model 3 Performance is a vehicle that even the most traditional of car enthusiasts can have fun behind the wheel of.

Read More: Driven – 2019 Tesla Model 3 Performance Is Charged With Appeal

One of the great advantages that the Model 3 Performance has over many other vehicles on the market lies in its configurability provided by the dual electric motors. When we drove the car, we absolutely loved flinging it through corners in Track mode, feeling the power being shuffled between the wheels depending on where the grip was needed.

Since then, Tesla has updated the driving modes on its baby sedan and now allows owners to specify exactly where you want the power sent. For example, you can decide to have all the power sent to the front wheels or all the power sent to the rear wheels. Want 15 per cent of the power sent to the front and the rest to the rear? That’s also possible. In fact, any combination in-between is available (in increments of 5, e.g. 35/65 front/rear, 45/55 front/rear). Drivers can also toggle how much stability assist they want.

So, was Reid won over by the top version of Tesla’s entry-level saloon? Watch the video right below and find out.

Hyundai Gives 2021 Santa Fe A Thorough Refresh With Daring Face And New Platform

This is the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe and while the car manufacturer has yet to announce all specifications for the SUV, it has showcased the new design in full.

As a recent teaser image indicated, the new Santa Fe does look quite a lot different than the outgoing model, even though this is not an entirely new-generation. The visual alterations start at the front end where there is a new wide grille, pictured below with two different mesh designs. Not only does the grille look quite striking but it integrates the main headlamps. Hyundai has also designed split, T-shaped LED daytime running lights, which do remind of Volvo’s Thor DRLs even if from a different angle.

The 2021 Santa Fe now sits on a set of new 20-inch wheels (pictured) and will be offered with a handful of other wheel designs in smaller sizes. Found at the rear are revised taillights with a subtle light bar. There is also a large reflector running the width of the tweaked rear bumper.

The Korean carmaker says the updated Santa Fe is based on the third-generation Hyundai vehicle platform that promises improvements in performance, handling, fuel efficiency, and safety. Among the changes made include moving the fixed points for the steering arms closed to the middle of the front wheels to provide more agile handling. The company adds that new reinforced sound-absorbing systems in vibration-sensitive parts improve the SUV’s noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) performance.

This new platform is also said to bring with it “significant improvements in collision safety.” Hyundai says that thanks to the use of a multi-load path structure, hot stamping, and the integration of a super high-tensile steel plate, the platform allows the Santa Fe to better absorb the impact of a collision while also minimizing the deformation of the passenger cell.

The interior of the updated Santa Fe has also been revised. Taking pride of place on the dashboard is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system while directly in front of the driver is a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The layout of the center console is also vastly different than before and incorporates a more angled design with large buttons to enable Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive, rather than a traditional shifter.

All 2021 Santa Fe models also come with a Terrain Mode selector allowing drivers to shift between drive modes to make the most of the HTRAC All-Wheel Drive system. Among the modes available include sand, snow and mud, eco, sport, comfort, and smart.

One thing the Koreans did not divulge are the available engines for the refreshed model, though in Europe, they did confirm that it will be offered for the first time with both hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

It will land on the Old Continent from September and Australia in the second half of the year. It remains unclear when the U.S. will receive the new SUV, but it’s also expected this year.

Renault’s Restructuring Plan Calls For 15,000 Layoffs Worldwide, 17.5% Lower Production Capacity

Yesterday Nissan revealed its restructuring plan and today it is Renault’s turn to do the same.

Renault Group’s main objective is to reduce fixed costs by more than €2 billion ($2.22 billion) over the next three years to restore its competitiveness and “ensure its long-term development within the framework of the Alliance.”

Achieving savings of this magnitude will be possible by reducing the workforce, the production output and the diversity of components within vehicles. More specifically, Renault plans to lay off just under 15,000 employees worldwide and reduce its production capacity to 3.3 million in 2024 from 4 million in 2019.

Renault plans a reconversion for the Dieppe plant after production of the Alpine A110 ends

The company said the workforce adjustment project would be based on retraining measures, internal mobility and voluntary departures. Spread over three years, it would concern nearly 4,600 posts in France and more than 10,000 other positions in the rest of the world. In France, the Renault Group will be organized around strategic business areas with a promising future: electric vehicles, LCVs, the circular economy and high value-added innovation.

At the heart of the Group’s recovery will be three major regional centers of excellence based in France. The Douai and Maubeuge plants will focus on EVs and LCVs, respectively, while the Flins and Guyancourt facilities will be reorganized. As for the Dieppe plant, home to the Alpine A110, Renault plans a reconversion after production of the sports car ends. Sadly, this likely means the mid-engined A110 will not have a successor. The carmaker will also launch a strategic review regarding the Fonderie de Bretagne plant.

The company also said it would suspend planned capacity increases in Romania and Morocco, as well as adapt its production capacities in Russia.

Plans to expand production capacity at the Dacia plants in Mioveni, Romania and Tangiers, Morocco have been suspended

On the product side of things, Renault plans to improve efficiency and reduce engineering costs by leveraging the assets of the Alliance. The company will reduce component diversity, increase standardization and pursue Leader – Follower programs within the Alliance.

It will also concentrate the development of strategic technologies with high added value in the engineering sites of Île-de-France (the region surrounding Paris). This involves the optimization of the use R&D centers abroad and subcontracting.

According to Renault, the estimated cost of implementing the transformation plan is around €1.2 billion ($1.33 billion). Renault is offering further details on its transformation plan during a live press conference this morning you can watch at this link.

2021 Hyundai i20 N Wants To Conquer The Subcompact Segment For Hot Hatchbacks

Hyundai’s sporty N division is expanding its product lineup with its smallest and most affordable model ever: the i20 N.

Spied at the Nürburgring covering some fast laps and on the roads nearby acting all civilized, the subcompact hot hatch is in its final testing phase and, by the looks of it, the camouflage should officially come off in a few months.

In the meantime, the sporty body kit that will set it apart from the regular versions of the new-gen i20 remains hidden beneath wraps. Nonetheless, expect the usual makeover that will include bigger bumpers and side skirts, roof-mounted spoiler, model-specific wheels and sports exhaust system with double tailpipes, as well as tuned suspension and beefier brakes.

See Also: 2021 Hyundai i20 N Teased As WRC Driver Thierry Neuville Gives His Verdict

The interior will get a sporty makeover too, gaining front sports seats, N badging and probably exclusive upholstery combos, with contrast stitching and piping. The equipment list should include ambient lighting, smartphone integration, a wireless charging pad, a new infotainment system, digital gauges and more.

The i20 N will reportedly pack a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that is estimated to produce in the region of 200 horsepower. It will set the front wheels in motion via a six-speed manual transmission, so don’t think of the i20 N as an alternative to the similarly-sized Toyota GR Yaris which packs 257 HP and an all-wheel drive system. Instead, the Hyundai will challenge the likes of other subcompact hot hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Polo GTI, Ford Fiesta ST and Renault Clio RS.
