A Look Inside The Kia Dealership In New Jersey That Sells Lambos, McLarens, GT-Rs And Other Exotics

Last week, we reported on a Kia dealership trending online that stocks all kinds of luxury, sports, and exotic cars alongside their normal inventory. Naturally, we were curious, so we went to check the dealership out in person, and the story as to why those cars are there was so much more than we could have ever expected.

Some of the highlights of Kia of Riverdale’s inventory include three Lamborghinis, four McLarens, four Porsches, five AMG’s, five BMW M Cars, seven Audi RS cars, two Nissan GT-Rs, and a Tesla Model S Plaid. If luxury’s more your thing, they also have two Bentleys, a Maybach, four S-Classes, and a G-Wagen. The Kia dealership’s most expensive car, a Lamborghini Aventador SV, is listed for a whopping $475,999.

How It All Started

We spoke with Jeremy Rochelle, the dealership’s owner, as to how all these cars came to be here, and the answer was actually quite interesting. As it turns out, his dealings in exotic cars started around 15 years ago as an independent business, and it wasn’t until only a few years ago that he and his two partners decided to start selling them out of real dealerships.

Rochelle chose Kia for his dealership because he personally likes where the brand is headed (and we’d be inclined to agree), while his partners chose others like Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen. He said that while the exotic car business was already in place and planned when he bought the dealership, the scale to which it’s grown was totally unexpected, and attributes the success to a combination of smart acquisitions, an ideal location, and the current state of the market.

It’s Simply Good Business

Rochelle and his two partners are set up in various locations across New Jersey, Florida, and Ohio, specifically so they can cover a wide range of demographics. All sales are data-driven from extensive research on market trends, and as a result, Rochelle says he would consider buying almost anything so long as he feels he can make a return on his investment.

To keep up with everything, Rochelle has a dedicated vehicle acquisition team at the dealership, and he and his partners are constantly swapping cars and data to maximize their success. And it seems to work, as sales for these high-end cars, at least at Kia of Riverdale, account for between 14 and 20 percent of their monthly turnover. On top of that, that figure only accounts for cars that sell for $100,000+, which means it’s likely even higher when you factor in cars like the AMG’s, M’s, and RS’s, which are under $100,000, but obviously don’t qualify as “normal” by any stretch of the imagination.

Customers Value Low-Pressure Environment

So while on the surface it may appear that the cars are just there on some sort of consignment or are just being used to draw eyes to the dealership, they actually get sold as regular inventory, meaning that the experience of buying a McLaren from Kia of Riverdale is no different than if you were to buy a Sorento from them. Given that, you’d think this type of purchasing experience for these high-end cars would turn some people off, but Rochelle says it’s actually the opposite.

Many of the dealers where these cars are typically sold sometimes have a perceived stigma of ‘un-approachability’ surrounding them, so by selling them out of something like a Kia dealership, Rochelle aims to make the buying experience much more inviting. He says that many people who are in the market for these cars actually value the low-pressure environment created by his dealership, and most figure that if the majority of their vehicle’s servicing will take place at its respective brand’s dealership anyway, who cares where it’s purchased from?

Regarding any skepticism about the vehicles’ condition, each and every one of them must pass a full mechanical inspection from their respective manufacturer’s specialists before Rochelle and his team even consider selling them. That being said, not all jobs get outsourced to other dealerships, as probably one of the most surprising things about Kia of Riverdale is that they actually have a Lamborghini technician on site for certain repairs. A white Huracan was being worked on at the time of our visit, so we got to witness the rare sight of a Kia Telluride being serviced 10 feet away from a Lamborghini.

Has Anyone Traded In An Exotic For A Kia?

Nearing the end of the visit, there was still one more question on our minds that we felt had to be asked: Has anyone traded in a Kia for any of the exotics, or vice versa? According to Rochelle, the answer is no, at least not yet. In the end, the fascinating story behind this dealership went so much deeper than we could have ever expected, and we’d like to thank Jeremy Rochelle, James Morando, Henry Lopez, and the rest of Kia of Riverdale for taking their time to help us tell it.

British Thieves Used A $27,000 Device Disguised As A Nintendo Game Boy To Steal Cars In Seconds

Three car thieves have been arrested in the UK after stealing five Mitsubishi Outlanders with a device disguised as a Nintendo Game Boy.

Authorities arrested 29-year-old Dylan Armer, 33-year-old Christopher Bowes, and 31-year-old Thomas Poulson after they were caught on a security camera stealing a Mitsubishi Outlander from a driveway in Scholes on July 20.

The video shared online by the BBC shows the men using the device to unlock the Outlander before reversing out of the driveway with it. Local police were able to use the video to identify the men and tracked them down.

While searching one of the cars owned by a thief, the police discovered the fake Nintendo Game Boy, complete with a fake Supreme case. The device was apparently stored in a secret compartment in the car and is allegedly worth around £20,000 ($27,000). It allows users to unlock cars and then start them and had been specifically coded to crack into Mitsubishi Outlanders. Police also discovered a video that showed one of the men demonstrating how the device works.

“The utter disregard they had for the victims, whose hard-earned vehicles were whisked away in seconds, is totally apparent from the flippant tone heard on the video footage we recovered from one of their phones.”

Armer has been sentenced to 30 months prison while both Bowes and Poulson were handed 22 month prison sentences, suspended for two years, for their involvement in the thefts.

Subaru Driver Attempts To Pass Semi Truck With Two Wheels On The Grass, Barely Makes It Through

Most drivers can surely relate to attempting a risky overtake, but few are as risky as what this Subaru Crosstrek driver did to overtake a truck with almost all his wheels off the pavement.

The incident took place in North Carolina on US-321, where the video begins with the truck driver making his way down the road in the middle lane. After about 15 seconds, the lane to his right ends, obviously forcing cars in that lane to merge. However, the Subaru driver next to him appears out of nowhere on the right side to attempt a pass. By the time the truck driver sees him and lays on the horn, the Crosstrek is already alongside him and passing with two of his wheels in the grass – and the other two not far from it.

He did eventually make the pass, but only by a matter of inches. Had he been a bit closer, with almost all of his wheels off the road, a tap from that semi truck would’ve sent him rolling into the embankment. According to the original Reddit post, the truck driver was doing 62 mph (100 km/h) in a 65 mph (105 km/h) zone and couldn’t move over to the left due to the passing traffic in that lane. Additionally, the original poster states that there was a sign indicating the lane ending, which means the Crosstrek driver should have had ample time to merge before encountering the truck.

Bugatti Teams Up With High-Tech Italian Apparel-Maker UYN

Bugatti and Italian apparel company UYN (Unleash Your Nature) announced a collaboration that will initially lead to the creation of 11 pieces of clothing, including jackets, mid-layers, polo-shirts, and technical shirts, and two styles of shoes.

“At Bugatti, we never stop pushing boundaries in all areas of our brand. Leading the way and setting new standards is part of our nature, which is why we are delighted to have partnered with UYN to launch the new ‘UYN for Bugatti” collection,’” said Bugatti’s CEO Stefan Winkelmann. “I’m very much looking forward to experiencing the products for myself, and I have no doubt many Bugatti enthusiasts are, too.”

Each item will be made in Italy at UYN’s headquarters in Asola and will come together as part of a close collaboration between the automaker and the apparel maker’s Academy for Research and Engineering in Apparel and Sport. Together they will aim to make items that are breathable, dry quickly, and are soft and elastic.

The shoes, for instance, will be made from a 3D-knit fabric that means they will have no seams. An interpretation of Bugatti‘s C-line design, meanwhile, will be incorporated into the upper half of the shoe as a ventilation system.

That same C-line design cue will be incorporated into the shoulders of the jackets and shirts. The design, which follows the shoulder blade, is intended to offer complete freedom of movement to the wearer. All items will be available in black, white, and Bugatti blue.

“We are proud to have the chance to start this exciting journey together,” said UYN CEO Marco Redini. “Bugatti is a universally recognized icon of excellence and quality, but what struck me particularly is the extraordinary combination of performance with comfort […] This philosophy is the same that underlies every UYN product, and we wanted to bring this to its highest expression in the ‘UYN for Bugatti collection.’”

The full collection will be unveiled this fall and will be available online and in select stores. The collection is expected to be expanded further following the initial launch.

This Rare Vixen 21 SE RV Has The Supercharged V6 Of A Buick Riviera

A few weeks ago, we shared the intriguing Vixen 21 TD RV after one example appeared for sale on eBay. Fast forward to the end of July and another RV from Vixen has hit the market, although this one is a little different.

The Vixen 21 RV was designed as an RV unlike any other and came from the mind of Bill Collins, the same man that designed the original DeLorean DMC-12. It was much more streamlined and aerodynamic than traditional RVs while also being lighter and much faster.

This particular Vixen 21 is an SE model, meaning it features the supercharged V6 of a 1997 Buick Riviera, as opposed to the BMW turbodiesel inline-six that TD models had. For those seeking power, the SE is the one to buy as the Buick engine was good for 240 hp from the factory while the BMW turbodiesel only had 115 hp. Mated to the V6 is an automatic transmission.

The RV was listed up for sale on Craigslist in Queen Creek, Arizona, although the page was recently removed, which could indicate that the car was sold. Thought to be just one of 170 SE models ever built, it has been driven 130,000 miles (209,000 km) and is apparently the only Vixen 21 that was painted red from the factory, giving it a key point of difference from most others that were either white or silver.

The interior of the RV is exactly what you’d expect from something built in the late 1980s and is dominated by lots of wood, vinyl, and carpet. The condition of the cabin isn’t perfect, but looks reasonable given its age. The seller notes that the front and rear air suspension need some work.

Wise Guys Trying To Skip Traffic Jam Using The Emergency Lane Meet Officer Karma

<!––>

<!––>

A handful of motorists in King City, California thought they were outsmarting other drivers during a recent traffic jam but local police had actually outsmarted them.

This video was recently posted to YouTube by ViralHog and shows the cammer sitting in a traffic jam when all of a sudden, a white GMC pickup skips the line of traffic by driving down the emergency lane. Closely following it down the emergency lane are a number of other vehicles, including another pickup truck, a Tesla Model X, a Honda Accord, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a Dodge Durango.

As traffic begins to slowly move forward, the cars that skipped traffic come into view and can be seen parked on the grass shoulder of the road. As it turns out, police officers were waiting at the end of the emergency lane and promptly pulled over all of the offending motorists. One of them can be seen speaking with a couple of drivers as the cammer drives past.

A number of other vehicles also sped down the emergency lane to avoid traffic, including two white Audi Q7s and a BMW 5-Series. However, these drivers managed to merge back into traffic before they too were stopped by the authorities.

It is unclear if the offending drivers were slapped with fines or simply given warnings but whatever happened, we hope this will serve as a wakeup call and discourage them from using the emergency lane again.

Jay-Z And Beyonce Rumored To Be The Mystery Commissioners Behind Rolls-Royce’s $28M Boat Tail

Last week, Rolls-Royce unveiled the Boat Tail, a $28 million coachbuilt convertible with an extravagant hosting suite in the trunk limited to three units. They never mentioned the names of any of the three commissioners, but news outlets such as The Telegraph have reason to believe the couple behind the inaugural example is none other than that of Jay-Z and Beyonce.

At first it may sound like baseless speculation, but there is actually some pretty convincing evidence in favor of this theory. First, Rolls-Royce mentioned that a compartment in the Boat Tail’s trunk has been specifically designed to house a bottle of Armand de Brignac chilled precisely to six degrees Celsius, as it was the client’s favorite champagne. Coincidentally, Jay-Z had apparently sold a 50 percent stake in the beverage company earlier this year.

Second, the car is supposed to evoke the scenic roads of the Cote D’Azur, which happens to be a place the celebrity couple frequently visits and supposedly enjoys outdoor picnics, which would explain the hosting suite in the trunk.

Rolls-Royce head of coachbuild design Alex Innes further alluded to that, saying, “I enjoyed many meetings with the owner and his wife at their home – they were wonderfully welcoming. They like to serve food in the mezze style, so we talked about the sense of hosting and grandeur which had to be part of this car. We road tested with everything on board at 155mph, just to ensure there are no rattles.”

Finally, the Boat Tail is finished in a plethora of different blues all throughout the car, however one specific shade in the interior is apparently called Blue Ivy, which is also the name of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s nine-year-old daughter. The Telegraph’s industry sources also reported that Jay-Z signed the underside of the Rolls-Royce motif on the grille, Beyonce signed underneath the rear badge, and both left their signatures on the engine manifold.

Rolls-Royce also mentioned that this first Boat Tail is going to a client who has just had a 1932 Boat Tail restored, but it is unknown if the couple is in possession of one. We reached out to them in hopes of some more information, however they declined to comment on the matter.

Scooter Rider Leads Police Chase Down Wrong Way Of Interstate Highway

A police chase ended miraculously well after a scooter rider behaving erratically led police on a multi-city chase starting in Danvers, Massachusetts, and ending in Medford just north of Boston.

CBS News followed the chase from its helicopter as the scooter was ridden down Insterstate 93 going the wrong way and weaving through oncoming traffic.

What started the chase is unclear, but the police say they chose to follow the scooter rider from afar in an attempt not to escalate the situation with the rider, who they believed to be suicidal.

Police apprehended the rider on Mystic Avenue in Medford and CBS reports that EMS was there to attend to him shortly after the chase ended.

Of course, not only is the rider lucky to be alive, but everyone driving down the highway this morning was lucky, too as the rider’s erratic driving could easily have triggered an accident that could have been very dangerous for other motorists.

The chase ended at 11:00 am local time and the suspect is now in police custody.

Rolls-Royce Appoints 8-Year-Old Junior Beekeeper After Her Beehive Was Stolen

Buckle up, because we’re going places in this story. Rolls-Royce announced that it has appointed eight-year-old Poppy Liddle of Selsey, U.K. as its first-ever Junior Beekeeper.

That all sounds very twee and sweet, but it turns out that Liddle isn’t some executive’s daughter. She was chosen because Rolls-Royce was moved by the sad story of her personal beehive being stolen in April this year.

According to the Chichester Observer, who spoke to Liddle’s stepmother, she became interested in bees after learning about them at school. Her interest led to a visit to Hayling Island, which has a working apiary and from there she insisted on getting a beehive of her own.

“She was determined she wanted to keep bees herself,” Claire Byrne, Liddle’s stepmom told the newspaper. “She spent her birthday money on seeds and compost and when she shared it on Facebook that she was all excited bee-keepers got in touch and gave her a nucleus of bees.”

Keeping bees over the winter isn’t easy. You have to look after them, make sure they don’t get too cold, and feed them. But, of course, Liddle was watchful and was thrilled to find a hive full of baby bees this spring.

Over the weekend of April 8-10, though, the hive was stolen.

“She was so so brave and just wanted to know that the people to stole the hive would take care of the bees,” said Byrne.

As Byrne points out, though, stealing a beehive is dangerous. Bees sting and the boxes heavy. More surprisingly, it’s not like the hive was just in her backyard. The thieves had to break through two fences, one of them electric, and avoid security cameras.

Who would go through that much trouble to steal a beehive? It turns out the answer could be the mob. Although the thieves, in this case, have not been apprehended, The Guardian reports that hive heists linked to organized crime are becoming a real problem.

The story mainly focuses on U.S. thefts but reports that bees’ role as pollinators is making hives a target for criminals. The problem is so bad that in California, some officers specialize in busting bee burglars.

The main driver of demand is the almond industry, which has grown quickly and requires about two hives an acre to pollinate all the plants. That’s leading beekeepers from across the US to congregate in California during the pollinating season. Although California is a hot spot, embuzzlement isn’t unheard of in the UK.

For Liddle, the only concern is that the bees are being taken care of. Fortunately, she does still have the opportunity to indulge in her hobby thanks to Rolls-Royce. On May 14, she was picked up from school in a Ghost and taken to the automaker’s apiary at Goodwood. There, she met Jason Hampton, the company’s beekeeper, and was given a certificate denoting her position.

“We were moved to invite Poppy to visit the Goodwood Apiary after reading in the local paper about the theft of her beehive,” said Richard Carter, Chief Beekeeper at Rolls-Royce. “She is the first person ever to be made Junior Beekeeper at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars: we’ve all been incredibly impressed by her knowledge and love of bees, and we feel very lucky to have her on our team.”

In her role as Junior Beekeeper, Liddle will be invited back to help the company harvest its “Rolls-Royce of Honey” later this season.

Rare Brand New McLaren 765LT Burned To The Ground Just After Owner Bought It

A rare McLaren 765LT has been destroyed by fire at a gas station in Pennsylvania.

The incident happened at the 500 block of Dekalb Pike in Upper Gwynedd Township earlier in the week at a Wawa gas station. According to North Penn Now, members of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the vehicle on fire while it was parked near a fuel pump.

While authorities were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, they were not able to save the British supercar. As photos show, it was completely destroyed by the blaze and left a molten mess of metal, carbon fiber, and plastic.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that the owner only recently purchased the car and had apparently only driven it 100 miles (160 km). Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.

It remains to be seen what triggered the fire. The fact that the blaze started right next to a fuel pump suggests that there could have been some kind of fuel mishap but it’s impossible to say. Whatever the cause, we hope for the sake of the driver that they have an insurance policy that will fully cover the loss of the car.

As a reminder, the McLaren 765LT is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out a cool 755 hp at 7,500 rpm and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque at 5,500 rpm. Prices in the U.S. start at $358,000.
