Rare Brand New McLaren 765LT Burned To The Ground Just After Owner Bought It

A rare McLaren 765LT has been destroyed by fire at a gas station in Pennsylvania.

The incident happened at the 500 block of Dekalb Pike in Upper Gwynedd Township earlier in the week at a Wawa gas station. According to North Penn Now, members of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the vehicle on fire while it was parked near a fuel pump.

While authorities were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, they were not able to save the British supercar. As photos show, it was completely destroyed by the blaze and left a molten mess of metal, carbon fiber, and plastic.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that the owner only recently purchased the car and had apparently only driven it 100 miles (160 km). Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.

It remains to be seen what triggered the fire. The fact that the blaze started right next to a fuel pump suggests that there could have been some kind of fuel mishap but it’s impossible to say. Whatever the cause, we hope for the sake of the driver that they have an insurance policy that will fully cover the loss of the car.

As a reminder, the McLaren 765LT is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out a cool 755 hp at 7,500 rpm and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque at 5,500 rpm. Prices in the U.S. start at $358,000.

How Much Quicker Is The McLaren 765LT Than The 720S?

The McLaren 765LT is an absolute beast in a straight line, so much so that a stock example recently set a 9.33-second quarter-mile, the fastest time ever for a production car. In order to see how it stacks up against a 720S, Hennessey Performance brought the two together.

In the first race between the pair, they were lined up from a standing start along a non-prepped surface, with both cars using their launch control systems. Out of the gate, the two were very well matched, but as the 765LT put its extra grunt to the ground, it sprinted off into the distance, leaving the 720S for dead. Making the 765LT’s acceleration even more impressive is the fact that it was carrying a passenger.

The second race was from a rolling and confirmed just how insane the 765LT is. During this race, the 720S’s gearbox was in manual mode and locked in first gear while the 765LT was in automatic mode and sitting in third gear. The drivers pinned the throttles of the two cars at 50 mph and despite being in a higher gear, the 765LT immediately sprinted ahead of the 720S and continued to build up an enviable advantage as the speeds increased.

Given how quick the 765LT is straight out of the box, it does make us wonder just what it’ll be capable of once tuning companies like Hennessey Performance start modifying it.
