The first generation Camaro appeared on the market in 1967. It solidly responded to the “unsafe at any speed” tag that was placed on it’s predecessor, the Corvair, buy utilizing a front-engine, rear-drive configuration…. just like the Mustang. It was available in four different models, including a convertible and was designed to accommodate any one of six available engines under the hood.
Sales of the 1969 models extended into early 1970 until the release of the Second Generation in February. Some of the 69′s were titled as 70′s which created some confusion. The Second Generation actually started with the 1970 1/2 and remained in production for 12 years until 1981. Inspired by Ferrari, Gen 2 was bigger and heavier and the convertible body style was removed from the line-up. Although they still offered seemingly endless engine options, emissions regulations and power rating changes in the industry slowly squashed the engines’ outputs. In spite of the weaker pulse, the 1977 model holds the bragging rights to landing the Camaro ahead of the Mustang in sales by almost 40,000 units. Sales remained strong through 1979, which proved a banner year for the company with sales pushing the 300,000 unit mark – a number which they have yet to repeat. Sales dropped considerably in 1980 and 1981 which prompted the re-design and subsequently the Third Generation Camaro.
The Third Generation Camaro was truly all new. The engine selection still left much to be desired, starting with a meager 90hp 2.5 liter and optioning up to a carburated V8 that spit out 165hp. First-time offerings such as factory fuel injection, four speed automatics, five speed manuals and 16 inch wheels sparked the appeal of the car-buying public and kept the Camaro alive. The star of the Third Generation was the 1985 introduction of the IROC-Z and it’s Tuned Port Injection engine that could pump out a refreshing 215hp. The big engines and the convertible models officially returned in 1987 and by 1991 they were turning out an exhilarating 245hp. 1991 also saw the production of the B4C pursuit vehicle that was used by law enforcement. Very little was changed thru 1992 as effort was focused on unveiling the new Fourth Generation for 1993.
The gen 4 model options were cut down to just two, the 160hp, V6 sport coupe and the Z-28 which had the honor of harboring Corvette’s 275 hp, 5.7L, LT1 V8 under it’s hood. The convertible was once again deleted from the production line. The Camaro continued to receive power upgrades and eventually cleared the 300hp mark in 1996 with it’s SS model that was engineered by SLP. The first all-aluminum engine since 1969 made it’s appearance in 1998 packing a punch with 305 factory hp that could be boosted to 320 via an available ram-air induction system. Chevy’s fourth generation Camaro ran for 11 years before it exhausted itself in 2002. It was then shelved for the next eight years.
The long-awaited return of the Camaro finally came in 2010. Based largely on the pleasing aesthetics of the classic 1969 model with enough new-age technology to satisfy today’s drivers, the fifth generation Camaro was a huge success. The LS and LT versions come well-equipped with a 300hp V6, and the beast of the line-up is the SS which is packed with a 6.2 liter V8 that smacks down some serious 426hp grunt.
There’s no doubt that the 5th gen Camaro scratches the itch of many Chevy fans. With it’s above average performance and over-indulgent power, it’s sure to stick around for a while.

To compensate for this fact, the utility companies are monitoring their electric vehicles battery levels and charging rates at Ontario’s eight electric charging stations. They’re looking at information such as how quickly the battery drains in real-world driving conditions, how quickly it can recover its charge at a charging station, and how costly it is to complete a charge on the road.
Because electricity differs from oil in that it comes from a generation plant rather than a barrel, generation costs at a utility plant must be taken into consideration when charging for an electric fill-up. These costs can be quite high at current levels, as the market is still adjusting to the concept of electric charging rates.
Utility companies are engineering a system where drivers of electric vehicles can swap out the used battery for a fully charged one, all in the effort to help offset such large costs. This system will allow the stations to avoid the time allocated to charging and instead charge a flat and affordable rate for replacing the car’s battery.

Motion Performance started out as a small operation at a Sunoco service station in Brooklyn in the late 50′s. By 1966 Joel Rosen had graduated from junior partner to owner, incorporated to become Motion Performance, Inc and moved the business to his own shop in Baldwin, NY. By 1967, he had made a name for himself by setting numerous track, regional and national drag racing records with Motion Performance built 289 and 427 Shelby Cobras.
In 1967 Rosen, with the help of a man named Marty Schorr, established a partnership with a local Chevrolet dealership, Baldwin Chevrolet with the goal of turning out custom, built-to-order, high-performance low-volume Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes, Novas and Biscayne Street Racers. This collection was dubbed “The Fantastic Five” for the five available special order models. The Camaro shined through as the most sought-after to be modified. From 1967 through 1974, Baldwin Chevrolet sold factory Camaros with an a-la-cart list of high-end options and sent them to Motion Performance to be built to each customer’s individual specifications. This production is now classified as ‘first generation’ (1953-1962), ‘second generation’ (1963-1967), ‘third generation’ (1968-1982), ‘fifth generation’ (1997-2004 and ‘sixth generation’ (2005-2010). Each year saw various changes until the Grand Sport Coupe and Convertible that is on the market today. In 2010, this car sold for $48,930.
The models C5-R and C6-R are well known in racing circles. Specially built with construction to accommodate racing conditions, they have been in the winner’s circle a number of times. This construction has included such things as enlarged engine and bodywork as well as the ability to operate on fuel other than gasoline. Indianapolis 500 has also used it as a pace car.
The most valuable models in existence today are the 001-005. Built in 1962, only five models were produced and were driven by several well-known drivers such as A. J. Foyt and Jim Hall. They are the most highly desired model in existence and are now in the hands of private collectors.
As the years passed the car entered ‘Pop Culture’ and appeared in the arts with television, music, magazines and film. Being seen in a popular television show or movie, for example, brought a broad exposure to the public and increased interest in the car. This allowed the car to be introduced without specifically aiming the advertisement to the car itself. The Chevy Corvette is still offered in the two door and two seated model. This has made it very popular with those who want something that is different, yet outstanding in style.
